Time Flies, eh?

Wow... I feel so pathetic. I have to give you the whirlwind tour here since I haven't updated this blog since BEFORE the St. Louis Marathon - which I finished in record time. My new PR is 4:50:28. I was nervous because I felt like I ran it too hard, but I felt so fantastic! The Flying Pig was not so great. I ran the whole thing alone and from mile 16 on, I was just ready to be done. I finished a few minutes slower than in St. Louis, but I felt like crap. Races like that make me question why I do something this stupid - voluntarily.

After my miserable Pig experience, I debated whether or not I wanted to continue training, but I have always wanted to run the Marine Corps Marathon. I kept saying "We'll see how I feel after the 10 mile run" etc. At the 13 miler, I felt FANTASTIC but still not ready to commit. Two weeks later, the 15 mile run was miserable. Hot, humid, I barely finished. And my husband, whom I love dearly, picks THAT MOMENT to register us both for the next two training seasons. His timing is very suspect.

In all honesty, his words to me that day ("I know you better than you know yourself") have proven true. That 15 miler was the only really bad run I've had all season. In fact, last week we did 23 and while I was tired and ready to be done, I didn't have so much as a blister. I haven't had to take one single ice bath this summer - and I'm not shy about the ice bath. I've touted the benefits to anyone who would listen (not too many, but I try).

So, 4 weeks from now, my husband and I will travel with one of our running buddies, Paul, up to Milwaukee for the Lakeside Marathon. This is incredibly exciting because I grew up in Milwaukee. This point to point course is mostly downhill or flat, and runs literally right past my grandmother's house in a rural part of Milwaukee called Mequon. How cool is that? My challenge will be to keep it slow. This would be a great course for a PR, but I have to take it easy so I don't repeat my miserable Pig performance in the MCM. Yep, doin' Marine Corps this year.

That is my update. More some other time.
